“The essays in this book are a tribute to his [Rui] seminal contribution towards Indian biblical theology and biblical interpretation. …. Through his writings, he continues to invite us to take interest in the issues of our times, engage with them in the light of the Scriptures, and read the Scriptures in the light of the problems that we face today.”
From the Preface
“VOICES FROM BEYOND gratefully relates his [Rui] story - all that he had been to the institute, to a generation of students, and specially to the Church. It is indeed a great work, human and Christian.”

“In this collection of biblical essays in memory of Prof. Rui de Menezes, … the authors re-discover the person and vision of Rui; the prophetic nature of Rui’s own teaching, writing, and interpretation of the Old Testament prophets; the call to mission and inclusive Church in the New Testament; and the Ignatian charism that came through in the life, love, and teaching of Rui.”

This book, Higher Education in India: Chances – Challenges – Concerns aptly discusses various issues related to the present higher education system in India. As the title itself suggests, it invites discussion on various opportunities, challenges and concerns that the present higher education system in India sets before us.
--------------------------------------------------
“While building “temples of wisdom” for the elite, we have forgotten to ensure quality education to the children of the poorest of the poor, the ones most discriminated against on the basis of caste and religion, and therefore higher education remains a dream for many even at this time of our nation’s growth and development.”
From the Preface
--------------------------------------------------
“Higher education in India must focus on quality outcomes in terms of access, pedagogy, research, consultancy and innovation, excellence, enrolment, equity and employability. Higher education in India should build vibrant communities of scholars and peers, break down harmful silos and enable students to become well-rounded across disciplines, with an emphasis on internationalisation.”
Prof. Dr. J. Felix Raj, SJ
Vice-Chancellor, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata
“The essays in this book are soul searching studies of George M. Soares-Prabhu’s writings, a tribute to his seminal contribution towards Indian biblical theology and biblical interpretation.”
From the Preface
“The Indian Church has been blessed with George M. Soares-Prabhu who combined biblical scholarship with humanism. This book is a great tribute to him by those inspired by his personality and scholarship. This will surely enrich the readers not just to have biblical knowledge but to live it in today’s pandemic world.”

Bishop of Sultanpet & Administrator, Archdiocese of Pondicherry-Cuddalore,
Chairman, Bible Commission, Conference of Catholic Bishops of India
“Ever enthusiastic and energetic in serving God and fostering God’s Reign, George M. Soares-Prabhu’s voluminous writings are difficult to categorize under one label. He was biblical scholar, exegete par excellence, liberationist theologian, proponent of Dalit and Tribal theologies, spiritual commentator, ecumenist and dialoguer, organic intellectual, mission oriented pastor, prophet and priest … The articles [in this volume] give us glimpses of the man, his biblical-theological method and the concerns closest to his heart.”
Prof. Francis Gonsalves, SJ
President, Jnana Deepa, Institute of Philosophy and Theology, Pune
Exec. Secty., CCBI Comm. for Theo. & Doctri
“This book presents excellent biblical themes on proclaiming, witnessing and ministering the LOGOS - the word of God. Papers are well presented with sound exegesis, scholarly arguments, theological and hermeneutical application to the context. I am sure that this study volume will make an important contribution to the task of interpreting the Bible in the Indian context.”
Bishop Chacko Thottumarickal, SVD
Bishop of Indore
“This Festschrift, which honors Fr. Thomas Malipurathu, is certainly appropriate in its content, since his students have been inspired by – and have expanded on – his interests in Bible, mission, and formation. The book has three parts, which reflect Fr. Thomas’s own biblical and spiritual concerns: 1. God’s Word: Nourishing our Life; 2. God’s Word: Inspiring our Mission; 3. God’s Word: Showing our Way. The articles in part one demonstrate that God’s Word continues to nourish our spiritual life today; the articles in part two specifically point to the link between Bible and mission; the articles in part three remind us of the challenge to live joyfully our call to prophetic witness in our world today.”
Dr. Timothy A. Lenchak, SVD

“Harnessing “Woman Power” for the progress and enhancement of society has become an imperative in today’s context of rising inequalities and injustice, world over. The fact that the vast majority of women are still unseen, unheard and unsung, is a sad commentary on the priorities and values that guide the leaders and policy makers at every single aspect and level of human interaction. … I am heartened to see a group of young scholars, mainly women, come together to voice their views on the subject of “Women Empowerment” and its diverse forms while also pointing out some practical methods to bring about the desired change. The papers here reveal a strong foundation of well-studied opinions and findings.”

We are not only "spiritual beings having a human experience," but also human beings having a spiritual experience. This book on living spirituality assumes that what happens to us as 'human' is spiritually relevant and invites us to improve our own behaviour or become more inclusive in our living and thinking. A genuine spirituality will make us worry about human rights violations or creating social and political structures that enhance our sacred significance, and our living together here on this planet. From this vantage point, we cannot ignore the needs of humanity because we understand that everything is sacred. It is time for us to nurture a spirituality that is not dualistic, not other-worldly, not fear based, not cultic, but life-affirming, compassionate, joy-giving and celebrating the simple things of life.
This book is a homage to Prof. John Vattanky, SJ, the world authority on Navya-Nyaya, for his pioneering contribution to Indian Philosophy and Indian Church. He has been relentlessly seeking God through Logic (Indian Philosophy of Navya-Nyaya) and Love (Western Spirituality). The twenty one articles in this book are subdivided into Logic and Nyaya, Hermeneutics and Dhvani, Spirituality and Sadhana, and Dharma and Ethics. The Articles attempt to articulate a philosophy that integrates Indian and Western insights as well as a spirituality that is both humanising and wrold-open.
This is a Memorial Volume for Prof. Noel Sheth, SJ, a man of ahimsa, compassion and dialogue. Twenty scholars have contributed in this volume to topics like Creative Dialogue, Practical Compassion, Innovative Inclusiveness, Living Diversity, Collective Search for Wisdom, Commitment to Indian Traditions and Religion for Peace.
This book is about encountering other traditions, building friendly bridges with them, affirming others compassionately, enabling them and appreciating their diversity and differences, through dialogue, interaction and cooperation.
“…. we have forgotten that humans are also part of earth’s biosphere and it has finite resources to support human civilization. Overexploitation of earth’s system can bring new challenges, which will be difficult to address by current political and social systems. … Therefore, new book entitled, “Our common Home”, where emphasis is given to promote collective responsibilities for healthy environment is timely and it can provide awareness among the local communities.”
Anil Kulkarni, Distinguished Scientist, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
“The world is not only going through an environmental crisis but a social crisis as well since the poor and the vulnerable of the society suffer most due to ecological crisis. A therapeutic shift is needed in our way of thinking that will lead to proactive policies which will result in determined actions all over the world to make our ‘Common Home’ livable.”
Prof. Dr. Martin Mallathu CMI, Secretary, Dept. of Education and Media
This special volume is a token of our gratitude to Prof. Dr. George Karuvelil, SJ. Through this book, we acknowledge his contribution not only to Philosophy and the Church but also at the personal level.
“Prof. George Karuvelil SJ has been teaching philosophy for many years at JDV, Pune. As a philosopher he dwelt on the domain of reason. Rightly so. The questions of faith however remained with him. He allowed them to intersect and fecund one another. It is faith seeking understanding, distinguishing faith from belief system. The former refers to the quest for the ultimate, while the latter refers to the articulated form of that quest. In that sense the thrust of fundamental theology to network with philosophical search remained one of the passions of Prof. George.”
Prof. George Pattery SJ,
Former Vice-Chancellor, Jnana Deepa, Institute of Philosophy and Religion
There is no monograph or hardly any research article on Deut 10,12-11,32 showing its various exegetical and theological aspects. The present study intends to meet this need. Following a synchronic approach, this study focuses on a textual study of Deut 10,12-11,32 in its final form. Reading the text intra-textually and inter-textually, this study looks into the contextual and theological significance of Deut 10,12-11,32 in Deuteronomy. It illustrates the structural function of Deut 10,12-11,32 in Deuteronomy, and how it serves as a hermeneutical key to understand and interpret the theology of Deuteronomy. Various scholarly approaches and opinions are taken into consideration for a meaningful exegetical dialogue with the text, and the text is interpreted in depth by considering various underlying motifs. While interpreting Deut 11,1-7, a solution is proposed to the complex structure and syntax of 11,2-7. It also makes an attempt to actualize the theological messages of Deut 10,12-11,32 by reflecting on its contemporary relevance.
This book is a revised version of his doctoral thesis submitted to the faculty of theology at the University of Innsbruck under the supervision of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Georg Fischer, SJ.
